Eulogy read at Olives Funeral

Created by Terry 14 years ago
Olive was born Olive Mary Johnstone on September 23rd 1948, to Mother Kathleen and Father Bill Johnstone, of Abbeytown, Nr Carlisle, Cumbria; her Father Bill was a shepherd. She has two brothers, William and Alan, and one sister Joyce. Olive spent her early childhood in the Cockbridge area of Cumbria, and after passing her eleven plus exam she went on to attend the Nelson Tomlinson Grammar School. She considered herself to be a “Daddy’s Girl”, although, she was close to and loved her Mum very much. *Added by Joyce. *Growing up in the “Sixties”, during our teens, with all the different fashions during that decade, it can only be said that Olive took fashion to the extreme, whether she was going to school, or going out. Many times she was summoned to the Headmistress’s office, for taking ‘Mini Skirts’ – literally – too far !! She was a daredevil as far as she and Joyce were concerned, and they both worked in a few Hotels before, and after leaving school, which meant living in the staff quarters. Saturday nights those days, meant going to a local club in Silloth, [over 18’s only]; but this did not matter to them and their friends, as none of them were over eighteen. Afterwards, it was back to Olive’s room, through the window, to spend the night and away early next morning. Basically, life then, was earning very little, and living a lot. After leaving school, Olive worked in the Hotel trade as a silver service waitress and later worked as a laboratory, technician for the then, British Cider Company. Terry met Olive in a circle of friends who met up for local dances and the like… they fell in love and eventually got married at Wigton Registry Office, on December 10^th 1977. Terry say’s that Olive was great cook and loved baking, also, that the best thing she ever did was producing wonderful daughters, Karen, Michelle and Andrea. Olive leaves behind, four precious Grand-children, Shaun, Nathan, Abbie and Lucas, plus a fifth who is not yet born. Olive was very much a family person, who knew everybody and was loved by everyone who met her. She loved her cup of coffee, her cigs and had a passion for television soaps, plus any tearjerker film or programme; Olive also loved listening to music and enjoyed many different styles and types. Unfortunately, in October 1994, and at the age of 44, Olive was diagnosed with progressive Multiple Sclerosis, and had battled the illness ever since that day. She never complained, nor let it stop her from doing what she put her mind to do; especially the Mum things that she loved to do for her children. Olive loved her independence and she even looked after her Mother, even though she was ill herself… that’s the kind of person she was and she never had a bad word to say about anyone else. Terry and Olive moved to Spain in the Summer of 2004, living for several months on Camposol B, while their villa was being completed. They came because they loved Spain, loved the sunshine, and found that the warm weather helped Olive’s health problem. Terry says that Olive was a “Home Girl” and loved to lie in the sun at the villa; she also loved visiting the local markets. They also enjoyed going places together and got to see a lot of places around the Costa Calida, and further afield in Spain. Olive will be loved and missed by everyone who knew her. God bless you Olive.
